Biografie

Istiaque Ahmed is promovendus bij de afdeling Urbanism (sectie Urban Design) van de TU Delft. Istiaque heeft een professionele Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) behaald aan de Khulna University in Bangladesh en een MSc (met verdienste) van de Bartlett Development Planning Unit, UCL. Voor zijn masterstudies in het VK ontving Istiaque in 2015 de prestigieuze Commonwealth Scholarship. Voordat hij hier kwam werken, was hij voltijds faculteitslid in verschillende openbare en particuliere universiteiten in Bangladesh, namelijk DUET, CUET en SUB. Istiaque deed onderzoeksstage bij de eminente architect Saif Ul Haque uit Dhaka en was lid van het studie- en ontwerpteam voor het 'Arcadia Education Project', dat de Aga Khan Award for Architecture ontving voor de cyclus 2017-2019.

Als professional in de gebouwde omgeving richten Istiaque's onderzoek en praktijk zich op informele verstedelijking, sociaal-ecologische rechtvaardigheid, stedelijk risico en participatieve ontwerpmethodologieƫn. Hij heeft op verschillende niveaus actieonderzoek, training en capaciteitsopbouw gedaan en werkte nauw samen met gemeenschappen om sociaal-ecologische rechtvaardige verstedelijkingsstrategieƫn te ontwikkelen. Zijn promotieonderzoek is gericht op klimaatadaptatie en sociaal-ruimtelijke ongelijkheden in steden.

Istiaque is aangesloten bij het Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB), UCL Alumni Network, Bangladesh Association of Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows (BACSAF) en Bangladesh UK Alumni Network (BUKAN).
