Biografie
José Luis Rueda Torres received the Electrical Engineer Diploma from Escuela Politécnica Nacional, Quito, Ecuador, with cum laude honors in August 2004. From September 2003 till February 2005, he worked in Ecuador, in the fields of industrial control systems and electrical distribution networks operation and planning.
In March 2005, he was awarded with a four-year scholarship from German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD, by the acronym in German) for Ph.D studies at the Institute of Electrical Energy, National University of San Juan, Argentina. Between November 2007 and April 2008, he was a guest researcher at the Institute of Electrical Power Systems (EAN, by the acronym in German), University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany, supported by a DAAD short term research scholarship. In November 2009, he received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the National University of San Juan, obtaining the highest mark ‘Sobresaliente’ (Outstanding).
Between August 2010 and February 2014 he worked as a postdoctoral research associate at EAN, where he is currently pursuing the ‘Habilitation’ (qualification) postdoctoral degree.
In March 2014, he started as an Assistant Professor (he got tenured in June 2017) for Intelligent Electrical Power Grids at the Department of Electrical Sustainable Energy, Technical University Delft, Netherlands. In April 2018, he was promoted to Associate Professor. In July 2017, he was elected as chairman of the Working Group on Modern Heuristic Optimization (WGMHO) under the IEEE PES Analytic Methods in Power Systems (AMPS) Committee. He was vice-chair of the WGMHO between July 2014 and July 2017. Since August 2017, Dr. Rueda is an associate editor of the Swarm and Evolutionary Computation Journal (Elsevier) - JCR Impact Factor: 3.893. Since October 2017, he is member of the Technical Committee on Power and Energy Systems of IFAC (International Federation of Automatic Control)https://sites.google.com/.
Dr. Rueda is member of Colegio de IngenierosEléctricos y Electrónicos de Pichincha (CIEEPI), member of the International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE), and senior member of the Institute of Electrical and ElectronicEngineers (IEEE). His current research interests include power system reliability, modelling for stability studies (off-line and real-time digital simulation), optimal control design (local and wide-area), dynamic vulnerability assessment, system identification, probabilistic and artificial intelligent methods, HVDC and FACTs devices, and renewable energy technologies.
