Profiel
With a background in design and industrial ecology, I have been working as a researcher at Delft University of Technology, Department of Architectural Engineering + Technology, as of 2011. My focus is on regenerative resource systems for the built environment, integrating aspects such as energy, materials, food, waste and water. Particular emphasis in my research is on differentiated yet interconnected 'layers' in buildings and cities (from materials and products to city-regional planning), with their environmental and social implications. My doctoral dissertation revolved around renewability of resources in the built environment, with specific interest for the residential infill domain: layout, partitioning, and user benefits.
I have been closely involved in developing the trans-disciplinary Circular Built Environment (CBE) Hub at the Faculty of Architecture of Delft University of Technology. From 2011 to 2015, I had the pleasure to coordinate the interdisciplinary Cradle to Cradle Inspired Lab (C2C Lab) at the Faculty of Architecture, set up in relation to the guest professorship of Professor Michael Braungart. The C2C Lab culminated in the first symposium on Circularity in the Built Environment (CiBE), held at the Faculty of Architecture in 2015. As a researcher, I have worked on numerous projects, such as Rotterdam Energy Approach Planning + Materials (REAP+, 2011/2012), Better Airport Regions (2012-2015), and Resource management in Peri-urban Areas (REPAiR, 2016-2020). Furthermore, from 2016-2019, I fulfilled the role of Program Manager Circular City at the Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Metropolitan Solutions. When I’m not working, you may find me drawing Pokémon cards with my son or exploring obscure funk and ambient records.
