Ir. S.A. (Sun Ah) Hwang

Profiel

Hwang is a PhD researcher at TU Delft. Her research touches on the feasibility, viability and desirability of Digital Building Logbooks (DBLs), studying the extent to which DBLs can convert the data collected into actionable information for relevant stakeholders across the construction market value chain. Her project aims to accelerate the decarbonisation of the European existing building stock to support the (sustainable) renovation wave on the continent.

Hwang likewise attained both her Master of Science in Architecture and Bachelor of Science in Architecture, Urbanism and Building Science from the same university. In her master’s thesis, she looked at the true nature of the mass and its manifestation as crowds in space.

Hwang previously worked as a research assistant at the Chair of Dwelling in the Department of Architecture at TU Delft between 2019-2022. Here, she collaborated with Het Nieuwe Instituut's Jaap Bakema Study Centre in organising and designing conferences and research projects, in addition to her role as proceedings editor for three consecutive years. Hwang also worked as a full-time architectural designer in 2022 following her Master's programme.

Currently, she is working on the Horizon Europe project 'Demo-BLog' as a part of her PhD research. Demo-BLog sees to develop and demonstrate a decision support tool that enables local initiatives to identify optimal sustainability transition pathways driven by clustered DBL data, supported by a demonstration on how DBL data can serve to monitor and progress evaluation of climate and energy transition actions implemented by local governments.
