Daniël Heikoop

Daniël Heikoop is a post-doctoral researcher at the Delft University of Technology since 2017. After obtaining his MSc in Applied Cognitive Psychology at the University Utrecht, he started a PhD within the Marie Curie-Skłodowska Actions funded project called HFAuto. Between 2014 and 2017 he performed his PhD on Driver Psychology during Automated Platooning as an external student from Delft University of Technology at the University of Southampton (UK).

His main interests are human behaviour and psychophysiology. Working with eye trackers and electrocardiographs, he hopes to gain insights into the human psyche. Furthermore, he is a keen cyclist, and one day hopes to incorporate his passion for psychophysiology into his love for cycling.

Currently, he is involved in the project called “Meaningful Human Control over Automated Driving Systems”, in which he actively collaborates with psychologists, traffic engineers, and philosophers. Within this project, he aims to address how we can have the driver of an automated vehicle maintain proper control of the vehicle, from a human-oriented perspective.
