Prof.dr. K. (Kornelis) Blok

Profile

Kornelis Blok (1956) is professor of Energy Systems Analysis. He studied experimental physics at Utrecht University and received a Ph.D. degree in 1991. In 1984 he was one of the founders of Ecofys, where he is now Director of Science, next to his position at Delft University of Technology.

Research

Prof. Blok has extensive research experience in the field of energy efficiency improvement and clean energy production, both from the technology and policy perspective. He played an important role in the development of international climate policies and has worked in many countries around the world. He has authored and co-authored over 100 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, several books and about 250 research reports and other scientific contributions.

Kornelis Blok is responsible for the development of the online energy education programme at the extension school of Delft University of Technology.

      Biografie

      Blok heeft brede onderzoekservaring op de gebieden energie-efficientie, duurzame-energieproductie, analyse van energiesystemen en energie- en klimaatbeleid. Hij speelde een belangrijke rol bij de vormgeving van het Europese energiebeleid en het internationale klimaatbeleid. Hij was lead author van het derde en vierde assessment rapport van het Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change en  publiceerde meer dan 100 publicaties in wetenschappelijke tijdschriften, verschillende boeken en 250 andere wetenschappelijke publicaties.

      In 1984 was hij een van de oprichters van Ecofys. Daar is hij nu wetenschappelijk directeur.

      Hij is geboren in 1956, studeerde natuurkunde in Utrecht en promoveerde in 1991 op het proefschrift "On the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions".

      Prijzen

      Lidmaatschap van het IPCC, de organisatie die in 2007 de Nobelprijs voor de Vrede ontving.

      Met zijn bedrijf Ecofys won hij in 2008 de Erasmus award voor het meest innovatieve Nederlandse bedrijf.

      In 2015 stond hij op de 38ste plaats in de Duurzame 100, de lijst van meest invloedrijke personen op het gebied van duurzaamheid van dagblad Trouw.
