Dr. M.E. (Martijn) Warnier

Profile

Martijn Warnier received his PhD in Computer Science from the Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands. After four years as a Postdoctoral Researcher in computer systems group at the VU University Amsterdam, he moved to Delft University of Technology where he currently holds the position of Associate Professor.

My research focuses on self-management of large scale socio-technical systems, such as sensor networks, the power grid or road networks. I study both operational aspects, such as robustness, resilience, efficiency and reliability, but also other aspects such as empowerment, security and privacy of users.
I believe that, in general, the really interesting research challenges can only be solved by truly multidisciplinary research that combines expertise from researchers with a variety of academic backgrounds.

Several application domains are central in my research: the energy domain, distributed networks such as cloud computing and sensor networks, and green ICT. The societal impact of trust and privacy and security is studied in a wide context, ranging from agent based systems to cloud and grid computing.
