R.S. (Rolf) van Wegberg

Biography

Rolf van Wegberg is a PhD researcher at the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management of Delft University of Technology, at the Organisation & Governance section. He received his MSc-degree in Criminology (cum laude) from Leiden University in 2011 with a thesis on money laundering and the funding of terrorism in the Netherlands.

After graduation, he joined the Department of Criminal Law and Criminology at Leiden University as a researcher and lecturer. There he predominantly researched Dutch financial economic crime policy. In 2013 he joined TNO, where he currently works as a research scientist. In this position he is involved in research on (financial) cybercrime and underground markets.

In January 2015 he joined TU Delft as a PhD Candidate at the Economics of Cybersecurity research group. His research is embedded in the MALPAY project, focusing on malware targeting financial services worldwide. Therein he particularly studies the criminal strategies used by cybercriminals and the interactions between these strategies and the (security) policies of the financial service providers.
