Join the department of Multi-Actor Systems (MAS)
Do you enjoy playing with complex problems? The Multi-Actor Systems (MAS) department is looking for a colleague to join our research and education in serious gaming and policy simulation. The position is available for tenure track assistant and associate professors, depending on the level of excellence of the applicant(s).
We are looking for a new colleague who is interested in the potential of serious gaming for designing and researching socio-technical systems. Your ambitions should resonate with our MAS “brand” of excellent research, high-quality education and societal impact in the areas of policy analysis, organisation and governance, and systems engineering.
As such, this is an open invitation for you to share your ambitions with us: challenge us with your creative and innovative research, your education ideas and your plans for societal impact. Below are some possible themes we would be keen to further develop with you:
- Development of gaming as a research instrument to test conflicting values in design of infrastructure;
- Research on innovative game design principles for behavioural change (of stakeholders in a multi-actor system);
- Gaming as part of a multi modelling tool to simulate the behaviour of individual actors;
- Continuous development of gaming as method to analyse multi-actor systems;
Your plans should contribute to the mission of the TPM Gamelab which is a co-creation space for cutting-edge research in serious games and policy simulations. The TPM Gamelab employs games to investigate, design or support decision making behaviour in ‘wicked problems’: real-world challenges that are not only technically complicated, but also involve different stakeholders with contrasting world views. The lab comprises a development team that provides strong conceptual design,game development and ICT support. This enables researchers and students to design and use digital and non-digital games in various application domains, such as: crisis response, multi-modal logistics, future (smart) mobility and cities, energy transition, resilience, and water management. You are asked to take a leading role in the strategic development of the Gamelab.
We are looking for candidates who can contribute to our course “Game Design Project” as well as to the department’s education in the TPM Bachelor and Master programmes, for example, in the areas of (wicked) problem structuring, systems modelling or organisation and management. We also expect the candidate to take part in other educational activities such as supervising and tutoring (under)graduate students. While your willingness to contribute to our education is essential, teaching experience in the above portfolio is not a necessary requirement.
Information and application
Successful candidates will be offered a Tenure Track of five years with the prospect of becoming associate professor. After a maximum of 5 years the tenure decision will be made. If you have a more senior profile, you will receive a tailor-made career proposal.
