J.M. (Julia) Burggraaf
Julia received her Master of Science in Applied Cognitive Psychology at the University in Leiden, where she also taught statistics to students, did an honors bachelor thesis on statistical paradigms and master thesis on cognitive biases. After graduation she first worked at Intergo, a Human Factors Consultancy specialized in Rail, after which she worked for CGE Risk, a software company specialized in the bowtie method for risk management in all industries.
Julia Burggraaf is currently doing her PhD at TU Delft’s Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management, on her work at ProRail as part of the RailwayLAB. At ProRail, she works on projects that aim to use big data for safety monitoring. Her research focuses on improving the process leading to the big data usage so that it will correspond better with human thinking. Specifically she investigates the prevention of cognitive biases during the verification of data and choosing visualizations to encourage correct interpretation of indicators.
