R. (Rongxin) Song
Profile
Rongxin Song is a Ph.D. candidate in the Safety and Security Science Group under the supervision of prof. dr. ir. P.H.A.J.M. (Pieter) van Gelder, dealing with probability analysis, modelling conflicting values and the impact of new threats. He received his Master of Engineering in Transportation Information Engineering and Control from Wuhan University of Technology (WUT), where he mainly studied the modelling of ship behaviour based on the trajectory data of ships. For the Bachelor of Engineering, he majored the Navigation Technology from WUT and learned the professional knowledge about navigating safely complying with the COLREGs.
Research
Rongxin’s research focuses on the knowledge deducing and ontology modelling based on COLREGs (International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea) and good seamanship for ship behaviour to cognize different navigation situations for one ship or multiple ships. The main objective of the research is to have the capability of automatic cognition and thinking for machine, which will make it recognize different navigation situations of ship or ships automatically, like humans. Finally, the results of the research can provide theoretical foundation for the intellectualization of maritime supervision systems.
