COVID-19 in Refugee Camps

Exploring disease transmission in informal settlements.

TOPICS: DISASTERS, HEALTH

Covid-19 is especially affecting those who are most vulnerable. Informal settlements and refugee camps, with their high population density and often less than ideal hygiene conditions, are a perfect breeding ground for Covid-19. Supported by the Delft Global Initiative, in this project, we use an agent-based model to test the effectiveness of different interventions, ranging from social distancing and mask-wearing to new ways of distributing food. Applications of this model also extend to other infectious diseases and crowd control.
