Multi-Level Governance for Urban Resilience

Preventing cascading effects in transforming critical infrastructures.

TOPICS: CLIMATE, DISASTERS

The speed and scale of urbanisation is rapidly increasing. At the same time, climate change and an increasing number of climate shocks demands urban areas to transform. Because of the risk of cascading failures, critical infrastructures and their transitions need to be aligned and coordinated This project takes a case study approach to analyse multilevel governance arrangements to improve the resilience of transforming s critical infrastructure systems in The Netherlands (e.g. water, energy, communication). The study gives new insights on how these relationships are shaped across various levels, and how they guide critical infrastructure resilience for urban resilience. This EU H2020 research, funded by the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Grant, will provide a new framework and next practices for policy makers to manage their relationships during the transition towards more resilient critical infrastructure and cities.
