Initiative on Innovation in Delft Engineering Education (IDEE)

The TU Delft Teaching Academy Initiative on Innovation in Delft Engineering Education (IDEE) aims to establish a centre of expertise for evidence-based innovation in engineering education for degree programmes at TU Delft. The initiative will address the challenges faced by the university in providing student-centric, world-class education and will use an engineering design approach to shape TU Delft engineering education. IDEE will offer opportunities for scientific staff members to work on TU-wide educational challenges in thematic teams. Teams will design, investigate and implement innovations in education.

The aim is to have up to five teams working on different educational themes or didactic-pedagogical challenges at any given time, with each team having five years to complete their work. In September 2023 the first three teams will start.

Besides the scientific staff members recruited in the open call, the teams will also include a postdoc, a PhD student and a learning developer. In each team one scientific staff member will act as the thematic team leader. The quality of the research programme in IDEE will be assured by its scientific director (to be appointed). A project lead will support all teams.

IDEE has a board consisting of the Vice President Education, the Scientific Director IDEE, the Academic Director Teaching Academy and the Strategic Policy Advisor Education.

Current IDEE Themes

In January 2023, IDEE was officially launched. After an extensive round of consultations three themes were prioritized.
