I’m Zilong Liu and a new postdoc in ‘The Sudhölter Team’, focusing on organic materials & interfaces. I have just finished my PhD defense in University of Copenhagen, Denmark, at the late of September, 2018. It’s really an unforgettable experience and I successfully managed to pass through the more than two hours’ Questions & Answers. I graduated cum laude and PhD defense committees gave excellent assessment of thesis, presentation and discussions. My PhD thesis presented important findings with implications both for the understanding of graphene oxide-based materials and microsystems, as well as for its emerging strain sensor applications. During my PhD period, I also spent around six months change of environment in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Before my defense, I have started the postdoc research in the 1st September, 2018. Here, I would like to show my great gratitude to Prof. Ernst Sudhölter who gave me the opportunity to start this new employment in TU Delft. The new project mainly investigates the physico-chemical interactions of surfactant-oil-rock system in the oil recovery process, which is supported by Shell Global Solutions. The goal of this project is to understand the surfactant adsorption process and to reduce surfactant loss and thus increase the economic value. That could be the further study of my PhD research and still use Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM)-based techniques. In the past one month, I feel more crowed in Delft than Copenhagen, but weather is much warmer with more sunshine. The new colleagues are really nice and helpful and I enjoy this research environment.
Apart from my work, I like to ride my mountain bike to wonder around the city and to explore the beauty of life. So if you have any suggestions on where to travel, do not hesitate to send me a message. I also do well in cooking with spicy food and that’s a bonus for my hard working J.
