Marijn Siemons finished his Master Thesis

Marijn Siemons finished his Master thesis "High precision wavefront control for 4D PSF engineering" with a presentation and defence on the 21st of February. He developed a microscope and adaptive optics system alignment and calibration method to reduce the wavefront error substantially below the diffraction limit and applied this system to generate Point Spread Functions for measuring the 3D position and the emission wavelength of single emitters.

Project Jacob Hoogenboom on electron-beam induced fluorescence superresolution granted

Molecules such as proteins act together to regulate life. Correct functioning is intricately related to which molecules locate precisely where within a cell, and dysfunction is often linked to diseases. Current microscopy techniques fail to provide a complete picture: multi-colour optical microscopy does not reach the necessary molecular resolution and it cannot image the underlying details of the cellular structure. The researchers will develop electron-beam induced fluorescence superresolution: integrated optical and electron microscopy with a resolution comparable to the size of biomedically relevant molecular distributions.

Project Eric Verschuur on enhanced North Sea gas field imaging granted

Because nowadays there is a lot of pressure to reduce gas production in our Groningen field, we need a shift towards producing other existing, smaller gas fields in the North Sea. The AWI group, together with the recent start-up company Delft Inversion, have been granted by the Dutch Government 240 kEuro to develop a method for enhanced, high-resolution seismic imaging and characterization of these fields.
