Entry Requirements

Keen on European work experience, you speak excellent English, and you have an open, creative mind and a critical attitude.

The EngD BPE programme welcomes applications from well-qualified students who have successfully completed 5 years of university training (MSc, ir., Engineering Degree).

  • You must hold an MSc degree in (Bio-)Chemical Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, Environmental or Food technology, or comparable, with excellent results.
  • From our EngD-trainees, we expect an interdisciplinary attitude, an eye for application of technology in industry and team skills.
  • A very strong engineering background for the Designer in Bioprocess EngD programme is requested: mathematics, mass transfer, heat transfer and experience with at least one of the following: Matlab, ASPEN, Python, Super Pro Designer.

Application Procedure

1) Submission of Documents 

  • Cover letter explaining why you’re interested in a traineeship in bioprocess engineering (no more than 1 A4 page).
  • Curriculum Vitae (no more than 2 pages A4)
  • Copies of your master's and bachelor's diplomas.
  • Master's and bachelor's degree transcripts including grades and a scale with the maximum, minimum and passing grades.
  • Two reference letters from supervisors of (research) projects or (scientific) work. Please upload through the application form, or email our programme manager at p.f.carriongordon@tudelft.nl.
  • Evidence of proficiency in the English language* if you are a non-native English speaker without an English-taught master’s degree.
*Good command of spoken and written English can be demonstrated by successfully passing one of the following tests (certificates should not be older than two years).
  1. TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language internet-Based Test) with an overall band score of 100 with scores of at least 21 for each section. TU Delft does not accept TOEFL MyBest scores; the scores must have been achieved in a single test;
  2. IELTS (International English Language Testing System, academic version) with an overall band score of at least 7.0 with scores of at least 6.5 for each section. 
Native speakers will be exempted from the English test requirement, as well as, in principle, non-native applicants who have obtained an English-taught Master’s degree. If during the selection process it is deemed that the English proficiency of the applicant with an English-taught Master’s degree does not meet the requirements, they may also be asked to do a test. Your application will be evaluated by the EngD selection committee. If selected for an interview, you will be asked to prepare a presentation. A pre-employment screening can be part of the selection procedure.

INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS won't be reviewed. 


2) Deadline for application

The application deadline for submitting your documents change according the Intake:

For September intake
Application deadline:          1 May: for Europeans and Non-Europeans
Application period starts:    1 February

February intake
Application deadline:          1 October: for Europeans and Non-Europeans
Application period starts:    1 July


3) Interview

Only after an evaluation of the application of the candidate has been carried out by the EngD committee members, the applicant could be invited to an interview.

Only interesting candidates will be invited for a presentation and an interview.
