Get a Room! Sex and the Commons in Berlin

Sex is a decisive element in contemporary societies, shaped largely by media and political platforms. These platforms often polarise through top-down dynamics, yet real change arises from within communities. In response, the design aims to be a place where the whole community is invited to explore, learn, play and debate, fostering a deeper understanding of one’s own sexuality and the beauty found in the diverse expressions of others. This multifunctional sexual education & experience centre accommodates various needs through sensory-rich spaces—like a bathhouse, interactive gallery and workshop spaces. Symbolising unity, an overarching forest structure defines the building, while an open landscape encourages adaptability and freedom. The lack of physical boundaries provides opportunities to accidentally  get involved with new people and activities. The project serves as a model for future architectural interventions promoting sexual education and understanding, highlighting the crucial role of architecture in shaping experiences and challenging perceptions.
