News ISSMO/Springer Prize for Weiming Wang IDE’s researcher Dr Weiming Wang has been awarded the ISSMO/Springer Prize - the most prestigious award for a young researcher from the International Society for Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization (ISSMO). New Facilities The CDAM expanded the facilities to support education and research, with the acquisition of the Mark3D Carbon printer, Multi material printer and the Stoll CMS automatic knitter. The Mark3D carbon printer offers high strength & high quality prints out of carbon fiber, fiberglass and kevlar. The Connex J735 printer can print multiple materials at the same time, enabling prints that require a range of mechanical, optical or thermal properties in the same part. The Stoll CMS 530 is able to knit complex patterns with different materials ranging from normal yarn to conductive yarn for smart clothing. Advanced Prototyping Minor Exhibition During an exhibition focusing on prototyping with/for digital fabrication on the faculty of Industrial Design Engineering students of the Advanced Prototyping Minor presented their work. Graduation of Christy Do Quang Commissioned by NS, Christy Do Quang recently graduated with her research on Agile Manufacturing. To realize the new service driven vision of NS, Christy looked in to the possibilities, advantages and the feasibility for the adaptation of Agile Manufacturing in the creation of the new train interior. Promotion Willemijn Elkhuizen & Farewell Speech Jo Geraedts On Friday 4 October Willemijn Elkhuizen will defend her thesis about the reproduction of paintings and Jo Geraedts will give his farewell speech to the faculty of IDE. Duncan Maagdenberg first to graduate at CDAM Congratulation to Duncan Maagdenberg! Duncan is the first to graduate at CDAM. In collaboration with Ultimaker Duncan researched the automation of 3d printing. The ultifact 4.0 is a fully automated 3d printing factory that requires minimal human interference.
