Floating Renewables Lab

A technology that is still developing but which will be essential for the energy transition: floating wind turbines. 80% of our seas and oceans are too deep for the current turbines. Therefore, floating wind turbines are needed to utilize the strong winds on the oceans. This is a complex and multidisciplinary area. You can think of the platforms, infrastructure, local generation of hydrogen, or the interaction between the turbines of a moving wind farm.

To intensify its development, TU Delft has announced the Floating Renewables Lab. A lab facility that will investigate and connect the entire floating wind turbine chain using numerical models and AI. The Floating Renewables Lab consists of 8 interfaculty research facilities that jointly research this.
