Dr. ir. Rene Alderliesten

Associate Professor TU Delft

René Alderliesten is associate professor in the field of structural integrity and damage tolerance within the Structures and Material Department of Delft University of Technology.

Since 1999, René was involved with the research and development of Fibre Metal Laminates for fuselage skin applications in collaboration with Airbus. He contributed to the development of the Fatigue & Damage Tolerance toolbox used by Airbus for certification of the A380.

He obtained his PhD in 2005 from Delft University of Technology on fatigue damage growth in Fibre Metal Laminates. Since then has held a position as assistant professor within the group until he was nominated associate professor in 2012. The main theme of research is fatigue and damage tolerance of metals, composites and hybrids, with the focus on proper understanding the physics of fatigue damage growth for these engineering materials.

René Alderliesten has been awarded the Jaap Schijve Award for his research in the field of “Fatigue and Damage Tolerance” during the 2011 Symposium of the International Committee on Aeronautical Fatigue and Structural Integrity in Montreal.
