Profile

Zahra Eftekhar is a Ph.D researcher in the Department of Transport & Planning, working specifically in the data analytics and traffic simulation lab -- DiTTlab. Zahra’s research is focused on traffic demand estimation and prediction based on data assimilation and machine learning. Before joining TU Delft, she obtained her MSc and BSc in Civil Engineering (specialization in transportation).

Research

Zahra’s research is focused on describing and understanding the biases and veracity of data and how it affects the insights derived from those. The available data can be either raw or processed. However, in both cases, one needs to find empirical evidence for its trustworthiness and consistency before using it for transport planning, even when no ground truth is given. She also works on data assimilation for short-term demand prediction. Obtaining the traffic demand might be difficult, but other easily obtainable/open-source data can help predict the demand. Another topic she works on is the spatiotemporal heterogeneity in traffic demand prediction.
