TU Delft & Brazil

Since the late 1990s, the TU Delft has been building substantial joint R&D programmes and delivering dual degree PhD theses, joint courses and exchange programmes for students and staff members with different universities and institutions in Brazil. Professor Patricia Osseweijer serves as the University Ambassador Brazil, and current collaborations with Brazil focus around the themes of Energy, Water, Aviation and Smart Infrastructure & Mobility. These themes are led by two or three theme coordinators from different TU Delft faculties, and each theme covers a range of joint activities with Brazilian partners.

Since 2011, TU Delft hosts an office at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Brazil. From 2011-2017, this office was jointly led with BE-Basic, a Dutch Public Private Partnership in the field of biobased economy. The BE-Basic and TU Delft collaboration resulted in a series of 15 advanced courses, a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), over 15 joint research projects and 15 Dual Degree PhD projects.

In 2017 a delegation of TU Delft Deans and the President visited several research organisations, industries and universities in Brazil which led to the further development of broader thematic programs of collaboration. MoUs were signed with funding organisation FAPESP and universities. In 2019 President Marcelo Knobel of UNICAMP visited Delft where he and President Tim van der Hagen of TU Delft signed a new memorandum of understanding for strategic partnership to further strengthen the long-term collaboration between these institutions.
