Numerus Clausus

There is a cap (numerus clausus) on the number of students on the Nanobiology degree programme. The 120 available places on the Nanobiology degree programme will be allocated via a selection procedure. The final deadline for applying is 15 January 2024.

Selection procedure

The Nanobiology selection procedure consists of two components: an online questionnaire and a selection exam.

Online questionnaire

After the deadline for applications, all candidates will receive a message with a link to an online questionnaire. You will be asked to provide certain information, such as your school grades, extra skills and reasons for applying. Additionally, we will ask you to take some preparatory tests and checks so that you can get acquainted with the system used for the proctored selection exam.

You will have 2,5 weeks to complete and submit the whole questionnaire. The online questionnaire must be filled in completely and submitted on time in order to be able to take part in the rest of the selection procedure and to receive a final ranking number in April. If you have not completely filled in the online questionnaire and submitted it on time, the selection procedure will unfortunately come to an end for you. So please keep a close eye on the deadlines, which will be communicated clearly.

Selection exam and preparation

If the online questionnaire has been completely filled in and submitted on time, you will receive detailed information by email from us about the next step, the online selection exam.

Preparation
Once you are on the platform to start the questionnaire, you can already find study materials there, offered to you as a preparation for the exam.

The preparatory tests and checks we will ask you to take at the end of the questionnaire are also part of the exam preparation.

Selection-exam
The selection exam will be an online proctored exam and is based on the study material. This material and the exam itself are designed to give you a good representation of the “concept” of Nanobiology and how physical and mathematical tools are used to understand biology.
The exam will take a maximum of 90 minutes max and will take place on Thursday, February 22, 2024

The selection exam is a compulsory part in order to continue to participate in the selection procedure and to receive a final ranking number in April.

Ranking and result

An overall ranking list will be drawn up, based on the scores from the online questionnaire and the results from the online selection exam. You will receive a message on 15 April 2024 via Studielink with your final selection ranking.

If your ranking is high enough for you to be admitted to the Nanobiology programme, you will be offered a place in a separate Studielink message. This place must be accepted within two weeks, otherwise it will expire and you can no longer claim it.

Please bear in mind that you must meet all the admission requirements in the end to complete your registration.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for students with the potential to become competent and professional nanobiologists. We use a selection procedure to discover whether you have the capacities required for this. You will need to be an investigative and inquisitive student with a strong interest in and aptitude for mathematics, physics and biology.

How can I prepare?

Preparing for the online questionnaire is not really necessary, you do need to make sure everything is filled in and carried out and keep an eye on the deadline. For the selection exam, you will be asked to read through the study material. The focus in the entire selection procedure is on your reasons for applying and on whether you have the right qualities to become a good nanobiologist.
