COVID-19 plunged most of us head first into the realm of online teaching, but is being an online teacher simply a matter of placing your teaching online? Does the current period of online teaching require something else than the traditional on-campus teaching role in our online educators?

In this talk, Calvin Rans will reflect on his experiences in online teaching and how he redefined his role as a teacher within a 1st year bachelor course on engineering mechanics during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following the talk will be an open discussion with the participants to debate on the necessary roles of the online teacher and to identify practical steps that teachers can take to improve the effectiveness of online teaching in the current climate as online education fatigue begins to settle in for both teachers and students alike.
