The Humanitarian Technology (or “HumTech”) Lab brings together students and researchers who contribute their expertise to design, develop, implement, and evaluate new technologies for humanitarian aid. Through this initiative, HumTech Lab aims to bring technology-driven, evidence-based solutions to humanitarian aid and disaster relief operations.

Professor Jenny Dankelman, hoogleraar minimaal-invasieve chirurgie en interventietechnieken en dr. ir. Ing. Tim Horeman, universitair docent Sustainable Surgery, bij de afdeling BioMechanical Engineering krijgen een significante financiering van NWO/ZonMW toegekend voor hun onderzoek initiatief “SMART Surgical system: High-quality medical devices making minimally invasive surgery applicable to low-resource settings.”

Early December TU Delft and Makerere University with funding from Nuffic implemented a tailor made training on “Innovation and Entrepreneurship to aid agricultural value chains”. The training lasted 2 weeks during which TU Delft trainers and participants discussed and identified challenges in doing entrepreneurship along agricultural value chains.

Professor Bartel Van de Walle en onderzoeker Kenny Meesters onderzoeken de rol van informatie bij rampenbestrijding. In de nasleep van orkaan Harvey in Texas verzamelden ze data tijdens een speciale hackaton voor studenten. Eén conclusie konden ze meteen trekken: Delftse studenten willen graag helpen.
