"Computing a global optimal solution for energy supply and storage of the future. - The reason reduced models are unavoidable"

The electric power transmission grid is complex, so is the gas pipeline system. The challenges of the future will force us to consider them in a combined model. Different questions will need different levels of precisions. We want to find the best possible energy supply system. Best here can mean different things, cheapest, most environmentally friendly, most secure, and so on. In order to create computable optimization problems we need so called reduced models. This talk will explain what we mean by reduced models, why we need them in this context, how we can compute them and what are still open challenges.
