Joost Alleblas

Bio:
Since 2019, Joost Alleblas has been doing his PhD research for the Value Change Project, funded by the ERC. He analyses how long-term visions, ideals, and technologies, co-evolve in societies. His research takes place at the Ethics and Philosophy Section, within the department of Values, Technology, and Innovation. Joost has a Master’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Amsterdam, and a Master’s degree in Economics from the Erasmus University Rotterdam, and ESSEC (Paris).

Research:
Joost’s focus lies on energy systems and the way visions of their development are moralised, i.e. put in connection with ideas of the good life and the good society. He has explored the function of moral and political ideals in innovation trajectories, such as inherent safety in reactor design; early media representations of nuclear technologies in post-WW2 France; ideals in relation to feasibility constraints for techno-political visions.

Hobbies:
Climbing mountains, but not descending them.
