Responsible sourcing of critical materials

Critical materials, and their applicability in technologies for renewable energy, have been widely explored from the technical perspective. However, governance strategies and ethical aspects seem to be less prominent in the view of key stakeholders in this complex environment. VTI and ESS have decided to join efforts to explore responsible sourcing of critical materials while identifying knowledge gaps from a governance and ethics perspective. The outcome of this proposal will add a new perspective to the Energy Transition Lab in terms of responsible sourcing of metals for green energy technologies, exploration of potentially interesting and relevant research lines, and new collaborations reaching out to other faculties at TU Delft and external expertise. Researcher Santiago Echeverri will be supported by Jaco Quist, Behnam Taebi and David Peck during this journey.
