Kostadin Petrov

Background

I completed an integrated master´s course in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering in the Faculty of Science and Technology of NOVA University of Lisbon, and did my MSc thesis work in TU Delft as an exchange student. After graduating, I worked for 6 months under a junior researcher scholarship by REQUIMTE in the "BioRevinery" project, where I performed extractions using supercritical CO2. Currently, I am pursuing a PhD degree in the field of Membranes, and Electrochemistry at the Transport Phenomena group.

Research

The electrochemical reduction of CO2 could allow for a sustainable process by which renewable energy from wind and solar are used directly in the production of fuels and chemicals.  However, the economical implementation is currently restricted by (among other factors) the stability of the membranes used under alkaline conditions.  The aim of my project is to develop an alkaline environment-stable, selective anion-exchange membrane.
