Mathieu Koetsier

Profile

Mathieu did his bachelor and master studies at the TU Delft. He obtained his Master's degree in Structural Engineering in august of 2021. His graduation work focused on developing "Virtual fatigue verification of Glass Fibre-Reinforced Polymer components for civil engineering applications".

Currently, he works as a project manager/researcher for the research project WrapNode-I funded by Topsector Energiesubsidie van het Ministerie van Economische Zaken.

WrapNode-I project partners: Tree Composites B.V., Shell Global Solutions International B.V., Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy B.V., Salzgitter Mannesmann Renewables, Smulders Projects International BV, HSM Offshore B.V., Enersea B.V., AOC Nederland B.V., BÜFA composites Benelux B.V., Stichting GROW

Research

Mathieu researches the static and fatigue fracture behaviour of bi-material interfaces for the hybrid steel-FRP connections. He uses advanced measurement techniques, like Digital Image Correlation, to obtain material and interface properties from fracture experiments, which can help make more advanced prediction models for hybrid steel-FRP connections.

The WrapNode project investigates offshore wind turbine foundations' fatigue performance and sustainability when implementing a new in house developed connection. In this project, we closely collaborate with nine industry partners like Tree Composites B.V., Shell Global Solutions International B.V., Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy B.V., Salzgitter Mannesmann Renewables, Smulders Projects International BV, HSM Offshore B.V., Enersea B.V., AOC Nederland B.V. and BÜFA composites Benelux B.V. to achieve our goals and share knowledge.

The main challenge in this project is to establish realistic and reliable prediction models for the performance of these joints. Therefore this project includes an extensive testing campaign from material to full-scale level. We can make detailed measurements of those experiments with advanced lab equipment to validate our prediction models, which will help the industry to accept this type of connection.
