Tanzania Dutch Energy Capacity Building

‘TDECB’ is short for Tanzania Dutch Energy Capacity Building Project. This project aims to strengthen the capacity of post-secondary education and vocational training institutes. This way technical, international and domestic challenges related to renewable energy and the gas sector are easier to address. The TDECB involves the Universities of Delft, Utrecht and Twente and supports the Dar es Salaam University, the Karume Institute of Science and Technology and the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology. By involving donor coordination and the private sector, the project reinforces cooperation between the Dutch and Tanzanian academic and private sector. There is special attention for enhancing equal opportunities for women and to the link between capacity development and labour market needs, promoting (self) employment of women and men. In 2017 the Tanzania Energy Platform has been established as a result of this initiative.

The Delft component of TDECBP consists, among others, in a PhD project carried out by Martha Nnko under the supervision of Dr. M. Brehme, prof. dr. D. Bruhn and prof. dr. G. Bertotti. Martha’s focus is on the Songwe basin, an area of high geothermal interest which has not been adequately modelled yet.
