S. (Shan) He


Shan He is a doctoral candidate of the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network (MSCA-ITN) on Self-healing Multifunctional Advanced Repair Technologies in Cementitious Systems (SMARTINCS). He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in 2015 and his research-based master’s degree from Nanyang Technological University in 2017, where he also worked as a research associate until 2019. As a researcher, he has been mainly focused on development and characterization of fiber-reinforced cement-based composites.


The overall goal of the PhD project is to apply self-healing technologies in the concrete cover-zone, the actual zone which controls the durability of reinforced concrete structures, saving unnecessary use of self-healing material elsewhere. Existing self-healing technologies for concrete materials will be advanced such that they can be applied in surface structures only instead of in the bulk material.
