Ton Vrouwenvelder, born 28 September 1947, received his civil engineering education at Delft University where he now is a part-time professor in structural mechanics and structural reliability. His present main occupation is senior researcher at TNO Building and Construction Research in The Netherlands. He is involved in national as well as international projects in the fields of structural mechanics and structural reliability. He is a member of many national and international research and code committees and the present president of the Joint Committee on Structural Safety.
