Giving feedback on students’ work and grading is time-consuming and complex. Many lecturers work with rubrics and evaluation forms to improve the interrater reliability. However, this still asks that they regularly discuss how to use these instruments and it does not guarantee that the interrater reliability is good. The reason for this is that every person often weighs specific aspects of the work different from someone else.

The method that is offered in ComproVed takes another approach. Comproved works holistic and comparatively which is a more natural way of grading. By comparing many examples with a group of raters and asking every rater to explain briefly what was good about the work and what can be improved, a high interrater reliability can be obtained.

The results of ComproVed provide the students with a good idea of the quality of their work and give them the right tools to improve their skills. Making comparisons themselves will add even more advantages.

The software behind ComproVed easily facilitates the uploading and distribution of the students’ work and gives a good overview of the results. ComproVed was used during a pilot in 2020-2021 by the Centre for Languages and Academic Skills. In this webinar, Maarten Goossens, CEO of ComproVed will explain what ComproVed is and Angeniet Kam, lecturer at CLAS and Education Fellow of Delft University of Technology will share the experiences CLAS had with working with the program.

Future webinars will be announced once the titles and descriptions are finalized. If you have a topic that you would like us to cover, please email Naomi directly: n.l.wahls@tudelft.nl.
