TU Delft boasts a substantial international staff and student population. Upon arrival, individuals undergo the common experience of culture shock, influencing various facets of their well-being—emotionally, mentally, physically, and socially. Beyond its personal effects, culture shock can impact the productivity of individuals in their work or studies. This presentation will delve into the phenomenon of culture shock and its implications for both staff and students at TU Delft. Furthermore, we will explore potential strategies that TU Delft can employ to assist and guide newcomers in effectively navigating and coping with the challenges of culture shock.

Katie Barry is an Educational Psychologist and UTQ/BKO trainer at TUD. Using her experience, predominantly working with students as a psychology lecturer and student counsellor, her main goal is to assist educators in terms of student wellbeing, creating the right environment for our students to develop academically, professionally and personally.
