Research Themes: Infrastructures & Mobility

A TRL is a measure to indicate the matureness of a developing technology. When an innovative idea is discovered it is often not directly suitable for application. Usually such novel idea is subjected to further experimentation, testing and prototyping before it can be implemented. The image below shows how to read TRL’s to categorise the innovative ideas.

Summary of the project

Transportation – of both, people and goods - lags in becoming more sustainable. Mobility is much more than traveling from A to B. A radical change is needed to turn the tide. Researchers are working actively to develop an evidence-based vision and strategies on how to do so. This requires a deep understanding of the mobility system including the behaviour of all relevant actors (travellers, service providers, authorities, etc.) allowing to develop effective interventions. With our combined research (T&P) and innovation (MICD) strategy we are in the unique position to develop, trial, and – together with our societal partners – deploy these interventions. Mobility Research and Innovation starts and ends with DATA. AI is the tool to analyse these data.

What's next?

More and more data are becoming available. With our personal travelling and transporting goods we generate a lot of data, and new sensors provide ample opportunities to collect even more data. These data are a rich source for mobility innovations. However, the system for generating, transferring and processing these data becomes more complex. One of the next steps for MICD is to intensify its collaboration with the DoIoT fieldlab. This joining of forces will allow to accelerate innovation on how and where to process data, locally, in the cloud or in other ways.
