A guide to LinkedIn

LinkedIn is the world’s largest online professional network and is widely used in the Netherlands. You can use the network to find out about opportunities, connect, and create your public professional profile. Therefore, we strongly advise using LinkedIn for your job search and paying attention to the contents of your LinkedIn profile. This webpage gives you the resources to get started!

Get started

Create a profile or improve your current profile. LinkedIn offers a free online course to get started and to find out about all features. Start the online free course (watch time: 100 min, homework: ca. 120 min). The course is initially targeted at students, but the content is highly useful to other users as well.

Eager to learn more? Go through the tips in the LinkedIn Career Toolkit of TU Delft’s Career Centre for students.

Be inspired

Search for LinkedIn profiles of others in your field. What do they include on their page? How do they present themselves and what tags do they use to be easily found on LinkedIn?

Use this useful checklist to check whether you have all the essential elements on your LinkedIn profile.

The Coming to Delft Service regularly organizes walk-in consultation hours for questions and feedback to your LinkedIn profile. Check the event calendar on the Support website and register.

Tip: ask others to review your profile to receive feedback to improve!

Challenge

You are ready to start! Connect with your peers: friends, (former) colleagues, and connections to increase your online network.

Extra: LinkedIn offers a paid Premium subscription with extended features to reach out, get noticed, and receive job insights. Do you consider using the 1-month free trial or the paid subscription? First, make sure you are well familiar with the basic (unpaid) functionalities and think about how you would use the extra Premium functionalities.

Good luck!
