About us

The Transport & Mobility Institute is a new TU Delft research institute dedicated to advancing sustainable, inclusive, and resilient multimodal mobility solutions. Drawing upon the collective expertise of six distinct faculties, we are at the forefront of transportation research, fostering collaboration to enhance accessibility worldwide.

THE CHALLENGES

  • Mobility needs to become truly sustainable. How can we ensure this, considering factors such as its spatial footprint and resource utilization across the entire lifecycle?
  • How to ensure that our mobility system is inclusive and equitable? How do we determine these aspects? What steps can be taken to improve inclusivity and equity?
  • How can we make our mobility system more resilient? How to monitor and manage the intricate interplay between networks, climate shifts, and a constrained labor market?
  • Our mobility undergoes rapid digitalization and automation. How do we maintain alignment with technological advancements while addressing ethical considerations?
  • How to contribute to the development, testing, and implementation of new and emerging forms of transportation, such as drones and hyperloop systems, while considering their broad impacts on society?
  • How can we better integrate mobility with urban distribution, energy storage solutions, and the evolving landscape of e-society to create more holistic and sustainable mobility frameworks?

OUR GOALS

  • Establishing a comprehensive vision for sustainable, inclusive, affordable, and resilient multimodal mobility, alongside a corresponding research agenda based on diverse future scenarios
  • Providing access to shared state-of-the-art research facilities, encompassing data collection technologies and methodologies, visualization techniques, simulation and optimization tools, as well as augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) facilities.
  • Collaborating closely with TU Delft to further transform the campus into an experimental environment conducive to new mobility initiatives.
  • Developing a meet & connect platform facilitating engagement among stakeholders from both within and outside TU Delft, thereby enabling swift responses to collaboration opportunities.
  • Contributing to national and European research agendas pertaining to mobility, thereby shaping the discourse and direction of future initiatives.
