Profile

Hey! My name is Maarten Boonekamp and I started in October 2023 as a PhD candidate in the frontrunner project “Climate change and vector-borne disease”, supervised by Pier Siebesma and Stephan de Roode. This project is about the impact of projected climate change and land use scenario’s on the spread of vector-borne diseases in the Netherlands.

Before, I did a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and a master’s degree in Climate Physics at the University of Utrecht. My master thesis was about the influence of local land use on local weather in a part of the Netherlands. The modelling experience I obtained then, turned out to be useful for this PhD!
