Profile

I am an atmospheric and climate scientist with a strong interest in atmospheric mechanisms and processes and their changes in relation to climate change in past and future climates using complex computer models. I studied at the ETH Zurich and worked at the University of Bern and the University of Melbourne. Recently, I have been involved in interdisciplinary climate change studies in Peru, Kenya, and Myanmar.

 

Research

My area of expertise is extreme precipitation and compound extremes, whether in the mid-latitudes or in the tropics. Extratropical cyclones are another area of my expertise and I study these under past, present and future climates in terms of their climatology, but also based on case studies to improve process understanding. An important tool for gaining process understanding and investigating changes in processes related to climate change is the application of regional climate models at the kilometre scale.
