Launch of new raw material from wastewater: Kaumera

A sustainable alternative to chemicals in seeds, granular fertilizer, concrete and paint? On 2 October 2019, water boards, science (TU Delft) and industry will present a new raw material extracted from wastewater: Kaumera Nereda^® Gum. This raw material is a sustainable alternative to chemical raw materials and can be used as a smart coating for seeds and granular fertilizer, as a glue and binder and in many other ways.

There will be two raw materials plants In the Netherlands and they will be the first in the world to produce Kaumera. The first one will be opened in Zutphen on 2 October; the second will be built in Epe in 2020. This innovation results in 20-35% less sludge waste, less CO2 emission and energy savings of 30-80%. In this way, the cooperating organizations contribute to a sustainable society with less waste.

The launch and opening of the plant for press and invitees will take place on Wednesday 2 October 2019 with Bernice Notenboom (climate journalist and filmmaker) and Mark van Loosdrecht (professor at TU Delft), among others.
