We are pleased to announce that as of 12 October the Executive Board of Delft University of Technology has appointed Jan Kwakkel as professor of 'Decision Making under Deep Uncertainty'.

Kwakkel has earned this promotion because of his substantial contributions with his research on analysing and managing uncertainty in complex decision-making processes. Through his teaching, research and social impact, he contributes to the MAS department, the TPM faculty, the university and the wider scientific and social community. We very much look forward to being part of his continued work on this fascinating and highly relevant topic that has applications in the field of climate adaptation, among others.

Jan Kwakkel: “I regard my appointment as a recognition of the research and teaching on decision-making under deep uncertainty that is taking place within Policy Analysis, Multi Actor Systems, but also more broadly in the faculty. I look forward to advancing this area of research in the coming years together with many others both within and outside the faculty. The research that we as a faculty conduct on deep uncertainty is of enormous scientific and societal value and can contribute to moving forward in tackling major societal challenges, such as climate adaptation and climate mitigation. A specific challenge for the coming years is to deal with the diversity of values and to further integrate them into models and simulations to support decision-making.”
