Five young TU Delft researchers receive ERC Starting Grant

The European Research Council (ERC) has announced the ERC Starting Grants for young researchers. Five of them are scientists from TU Delft. This European grant of €1.5 million for a five-year research programme is intended to enable individual scientists to build their own teams and conduct groundbreaking research.

ERC Starting grant for CO2 recycling in chemical industry

Converting large concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2) into products for the chemical industry. That is what Tom Burdyny, recipient of an ERC Starting Grant, wants to achieve. The method that might make this possible is called electrolysis, which creates new chemical bonds by application of electricity.

Graduation ceremony of 500th Engineering Doctorate

The Faculty of Applied Sciences celebrated the 500th Engineering Doctorate (EngD) conferral during a milestone graduation ceremony on 9 June 2023. Fourteen new Applied Sciences EngDs graduates successfully finished their design-traineeships. Together with all predecessors, a total of 512 EngD graduates have obtained their degree since 1991.

Eight TU Delft researchers receive Vidi grants

Eight TU Delft researchers receive Vidi grants

The Dutch Research Council (NWO) has awarded eight TU Delft researchers from the Science (ENW) and Applied and Engineering Sciences (AES) domains, a Vidi grant of up to 800,000 euro. This will enable the laureates to develop an innovative line of research over the next five years and further expand their own research group. A total of 97 Vidi grants were awarded.

Pieter Swinkels awarded the 4TU.SAI Stan Ackermans Medal

Pieter Swinkels was presented with the 4TU.SAI Stan Ackermans Medal by Paulien Herder, dean of the faculty of Applied Sciences, during the symposium for Engineering Doctorate (EngD) trainees on 9 June 2023. Pieter Swinkels is managing director of the post-MSc EngD designer programmes in Chemical Product Design and Process and Equipment Design (CPD and PED) at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). He is also TU Delft’s coordinator within the 4TU.SAI (Stan Ackermans Institute) representing all EngD programmes in the Netherlands. There was a double cause for celebration, as the programme also celebrated the 500th EngD graduate.

DIFFER develops research facility for energy transition

DIFFER develops research facility for energy transition

A Dutch consortium, led by national energy research institute DIFFER, will receive 4.7 million euros from NWO to build a facility that makes controlled layers of material. Through this facility, Delft researchers and partnering institutes can explore materials for new catalysts and batteries.
