Research Leader Department of Urbanism
Steffen Nijhuis is an internationally experienced academic, designer, project leader, and author of award-winning publications. By training, he is a landscape architect and a gardener. His work focuses on landscape-based urbanism, sustainable urban landscape development, design with natural processes, designed heritage landscapes & gardens and digital landscape architecture. He is Full Professor of Landscape-based Urbanism, Head of the Section Landscape Architecture and Research Leader of the Department of Urbanism at Delft University of Technology.
Nijhuis is an advisor to NGO’s, governmental and regional authorities across the world and serves on the boards of the TU Delft Department of Urbanism and the Chabot Museum Rotterdam. He is also Editor in Chief of the Research in Urbanism Series (RiUS) and the Springer Urban Studies Book Series.
Supervision of PhD, post-MSc and MSc graduation projects are core activities. Furthermore, he is Visiting Professor and Guest Lecturer at Universities in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and North America.
