Continue your Professional Development

Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) is happy to keep you informed about training for your further professional development. One of the recent workshops for educators held in December, was Duty of Care “Zorgplicht” hosted by Katy Barrie, Educational Psychologist,  where the focus was on how as an educator, you can be confronted with students’ welfare and what you can do in your role. Through a theatre session, where the audience plays the main role, wonderful reflections were made and new insights on a nice path ahead were gained.

Upcoming trainings in February

Teaching with Open Educational Resources
Open Educationall Resources (OER) are teaching and learning materials that permit no-cost access, use, adaption and redistribution by others with no or limited restrictions. Lecturers can adapt and publish their own OER, thereby meeting the needs of their students more closely than when using proprietary and commercial resources.  It starts on 12 February, free of charge.

Building and Moderating Extension School Courses
Lecturers and TAs building new online courses or working on re-runs of existing online courses with the Extension School, will benefit from this course. This course will teach you how to build and run your course in edX. Learn about the possibilities and tools of the edX platform for MOOCs and Professional Education courses, and best practices for communicating with your online learners and moderating your course’s discussion board. You can follow it for free. It starts on 13 February, free of charge.

Activating Large Audiences
As a teacher, you know better than anyone: students and pupils only learn when they practise. Activating a group is not an easy task. Before you know it, you are lost in a dialogue while the rest are checking their mobiles - and you wanted to interact with the whole group! You will learn tools from theatre for the guidance of student activity and enhancement of their mental activity. A new method to analyse learning objectives will provide the opportunity to develop short practical exercises.  This course has a cost but is definitely worth it. It starts on 27 February 2024.

Education on Stage
Here you will apply the phenomenon of theatre to teaching, and discover one underlying principle to guide all aspects of our performance including posture, gestures and use of voice. This course has a cost and can be combined with Activating Large Audiences. It starts on 27 February 2024.
