Help improve Copyright and Open Access support in BrightSpace

Do you regularly upload scientific articles to Brightspace to support your students’ learning experience and would you be interested in automatically receiving Open Access alternatives? When you upload scientific articles to Brighspace, do you sometimes wonder if you did this correctly? If these questions spark curiosity, you should read on.

TU Delft participates in the development by SURF of a socalled CopyRIGHT tool. This tool will eventually support teaching staff with suggestions of equivalent open access materials and direct support from TU Delft Library - Copyright Information Point, as well as by creating insight in how to improve attribtuion of copyright protected materials in Brightspace. To gain insight in the usability and user-friendliness we are looking for teaching staff willing and able to share their experience and feedback on one of the first versions of the tool.

We would really appreciate if you could support us improving our support for the whole teaching community.  Are you available and can you spare about 2 hours of your precious time on testing the CopyRight Tool between 17-21 May 2021? Then we are looking for you!

How does the tool work?

When you upload a document in your Brightspace Course, the CopyRIGHT tool will check, based on the ISBN or DOI number, if the uploaded documents are ready for use and if there are comparable (Open Access) alternatives available for you to use. This saves you trouble in properly uploading scientific documents in Brightspace and helps you find open access alternatives.

What will happen in a pilot?

In the week of 17-21 May you will be invited to a short kick off session (30 minutes) and will be working with the CopyRIGHT tool in a safe test environment in Brightspace. There, you will upload a number of your educational and scientific documents in .pdf and other formats and assess the functionality and user friendliness of the tool. Afterwards, you will be asked to answer evaluation questions.

What if I don't have enough time in that week?

In that case, please let us know you are interested and we’ll find a solution. Either we adjust timing, or we ask you to participate in different ways.
