Relaxations in educational activities

Last updated 30 August 2021

As of 30 August, educational activities on site (campus) are possible without observing the 1.5 meter distance rule. This means that within the building(s) where teaching takes place, no distance needs to be maintained during educational activities or when moving around. This applies to both students and staff involved in education. The facility manager determines whether the education regulations apply to a building or part of a building (see also routing and signing).
As an additional safety measure, there is a maximum group size of 75 persons per independent room (excluding lecturers and supervisors). The maximum group size does not apply in the corridors and other flow-through locations (including the entrance halls). In addition, all staff, students, and visitors are asked to wear a mouth mask when moving around buildings where instruction is given.
Reservations for self-study spaces are no longer a requirement. The facility manager may decide to use a reservation system.
The capacity rule of no more than 75 people per self-contained space applies to all activities at the institution, including:

  • Libraries, rooms for self-study and research rooms (for practical education)
  • Canteens, unless it is set up as a drop-off location. In that case, no maximum number of attendees applies.
  • Large spaces where the 1.5m distance rule (widely) can be guaranteed.
  • Open days and special occasions such as the opening of the academic year.
  • Examinations

For graduation meetings, a maximum group size of 25 per graduate student has been set by the Executive Board for individual graduation sessions starting August 30. For other graduation meetings, a maximum of 50 people applies.

Examinations Q1
There may be an exception for examinations, exams and tests, given the obvious impediment that group size creates to study progress there. It is being considered whether an exception can apply strictly to this, so that there is the option to exceed the maximum group size in large rooms if they are used for exams, tests and examinations, provided that the 1.5 meter distance is strictly observed.
A motion has already been passed in the House of Representatives for the above exception.

Work-at-home advice
The government gives the following guideline: 'Work at home, unless there is no other way. Only go to work if you cannot do your work at home.'
Employees may work on campus for teaching or other campus-related activities. When there is no teaching activity, a distance of 1.5 meters is kept between them.

Routing and signing
It is clear to students, staff and visitors which regime is in force in the building (section). To this end, the facility management (FM) department checks the presence and topicality of routing and signing and suchlike. In consultation with the facility manager, FM applies additional lines/signing (for example, in the case of rooms with multiple functions or with specific functions of building sections that differ from the main function of the building).

Ventilation
The current corona policy emphasizes the importance of ventilation. At the request of the Executive Board, posters and/or signs have been developed with ventilation advice for teaching rooms. In addition, there is contact between the CRE&FM (Campus Real Estate & Facility Management), ESA (Education & Student Affairs), and the appropriate facility administrators regarding the ventilation of education spaces where windows cannot be opened.

Catering
All catering establishments will reopen as of the 2021-2022 academic year. The national branch guidelines for the hospitality industry are under discussion.

Sports and museums
The national branch guidelines for sports venues and museums are in place at X and Science Centre.
