Bertotti, G.

Profile

Following my MSc at the University of Pisa (Italy) I was awarded my PhD at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich (Switzerland) with a study of a segment of the Mesozoic rifted continental margin of Africa presently outcropping in the Alps. I then spent 1 year in Niger (N Africa) working on water resources in rural villages and on training; a very fertile experience! In 1991 I joined the VU Amsterdam as a post-doc in the Tectonics group. From there my academic career started! I worked on the integration between data (mainly from outcrops) and numerical models, and was lucky enough to do this in various parts of the world, from the Carpathians to Turkey and Morocco.

From 2007 I began developing a new research line focussing on the geology of fractured reservoirs. This eventually brought me in 2010 to TUD where, together with my colleagues, I work at strengthening the interactions between geological and engineering sciences. A great challenge, highly needed to tackle the complex problems facing our world.

Since 2016 I have decided to devote more energy to … people in our Faculty and was nominated Director of the Faculty Graduate School which works for the success of PhD candidates. Even more recently a new challenging task: Diversity and Inclusion officer of the Faculty. With a substantial delay, we are finally developing a policy to make our University more inclusive… a lot of work to be done!
