The Executive Council of the Acoustical Society of America has elected Martin Verweij as Fellow for his contributions to nonlinear medical ultrasound. The prestigious Fellow title is granted by academic societies to members who have made an enduring impact on their scientific field and a significant contribution to the organization of the society.

Martin Verweij is an Associate Professor at the section Acoustical Wavefield Imaging, department Imaging Physics, faculty Applied Sciences, Delft University of Technology, and at Department Biomedical Imaging, Erasmus MC, Rotterdam.

The prestigious Fellow title is granted by academic societies to members who have made an enduring impact on their scientific field and a significant contribution to the organization of the society. The Acoustical Society of America is the largest and most influential society in the field of Acoustics. The citation for the election of Martin Verweij is ‘For contributions to nonlinear medical ultrasound’, which points primarily to his invention and successive development of the Iterative Nonlinear Contrast Source method for the computation of nonlinear ultrasound fields in biomedical tissue with complex properties.

His other research involves the development of medical ultrasound matrix transducers, and acoustic beamforming and imaging. He is also an Associate Editor of the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America and Technical Committee member for Biomedical Acoustics and Computational Acoustics.
